- Direct supply from China manufacturer – in-house coating and slitting by CloudFilm with global export experience.
PET Protective Film Description
What Is PET Protective Film?
PET protective film is a surface protection material based on biaxially oriented PET film with a removable adhesive layer. Compared with common PE protective films, PET offers higher stiffness, better scratch resistance and improved heat resistance, which makes it ideal for premium metal, glass and electronic surfaces. As the same PET family used in CloudFilm’s PET film sheet products, it combines optical clarity with mechanical strength for demanding industrial environments.
Structure, Properties and Custom Options
The typical structure of PET protective film is PET base / primer (optional) / pressure-sensitive adhesive. CloudFilm can customize thickness (around 12–125 μm for the PET layer), adhesion levels from very low to medium–high, and adhesive types optimized for glass, metals, plastics or coated surfaces.
For applications that require high gloss and premium appearance, options derived from our gloss PET film portfolio can be selected to enhance clarity and surface smoothness.
Color choices include clear, light blue and milky white to improve handling visibility on the line. PET’s excellent dimensional stability helps the film stay flat during die-cutting, CNC machining, bending or thermoforming.
For customers with sustainability targets, CloudFilm can also discuss integrating recycled content concepts similar to its PCR PET film range, while still keeping reliable adhesion and optical performance.
Typical Uses in Your Production Flow
In many factories, PET protective film is laminated onto panels at the material supplier, stays on the surface throughout cutting, drilling and assembly, and is removed only at the final installation or by the end user. It is frequently used on stainless steel appliances, aluminum composite panels, elevator interiors, architectural glass and glossy furniture boards.
When goods are finally packed for shipment, PET protective film can be combined with CloudFilm’s PE protective film or stretch film solutions to protect both the surface and the outer packaging.
Engineers who are already familiar with PET materials from applications like Mylar will find the handling and mechanical behavior similar. CloudFilm’s Mylar properties guide and its article on the difference between PET and polyester film provide additional background if you need to align internal technical teams.
Why Work With CloudFilm as Your PET Protective Film Partner?
CloudFilm is a China-based flexible packaging films manufacturer and supplier with more than 20 years of experience in BOPET, BOPP, PE and specialty films for packaging and industrial uses. By integrating PET casting, coating and slitting, we can control quality from base film to final protective film rolls. Customers can choose jumbo rolls for local slitting, standard-width master rolls for panel lines, or small trial rolls for line testing.
Our team works directly with buyers, engineers and converters to define the right thickness, adhesion, color and roll layout for each project, and we understand export requirements for markets in Europe, North America, Southeast Asia and beyond.
With in-house technical support and a broad PET portfolio, CloudFilm positions PET protective film not as a standalone item, but as part of a complete PET solution covering base films, high-barrier films and recyclable structures.
To help engineers and buyers qualify PET protective film faster, this section can summarize key data and simple selection rules:
- Basic Data Snapshot
- Typical PET thickness range: about 12–125 μm
- Available widths: customized to your panel size or slitting plan
- Adhesion levels: ultra-low, low, medium (measured as peel strength on target surface)
- Colors: clear, light blue, milky white
- Supply form: jumbo rolls, standard rolls, trial rolls
- Quick Selection Tips
- For very smooth glass or mirror stainless steel, start with low to medium adhesion to ensure clean removal.
- For textured metal or powder-coated surfaces, consider slightly higher adhesion to maintain contact during handling.
- For applications involving higher temperatures, confirm your maximum process temperature so we can select a heat-resistant PET grade.
- When in doubt, ask for 2–3 adhesion levels in small rolls and run line trials before fixing your final specification.

FAQ
In most projects, we supply PET protective film in thicknesses from about 12–125 μm, with customized gauges possible for special applications.
When the correct adhesion level and surface type are matched, the film is designed for clean removal without glue residue, haze or ghosting. We will help you choose the right grade based on your surface and process.
Yes. We can provide printable surface or pre-printed logos, arrows and text to indicate peeling direction, brand identity or quality messages, subject to order quantity and artwork confirmation.
PET has better heat resistance than PE, so PET protective film is suitable for many cutting, forming and baking processes within its temperature limits. For very high temperatures, we will check your exact conditions before recommending a grade.
Please share your application (for example stainless steel panel, glass, electronics), required thickness, surface size or roll width, target peel force, expected usage temperature and annual quantity. The more detail you provide, the faster we can optimize the structure and pricing.
