Matte PET Film Description

CloudFilm is one of the leading suppliers of matte PET films in China. With years of production experience and technical excellence, it aims to provide you with the most idealized matte PET.

Matte PET film, also known as matte polyester film, is a biaxially oriented polyester film made with specialized masterbatches by a sophisticated process.

We can offer PET films with various matte surfaces, including low matte, medium matte, high matte, and halftone printing matte PET.

Matt PET film plays an important role in various applications and market segments.

In electronic product display screen protectors, matte PET films are typical because of their anti-reflection and anti-glare properties. These properties mitigate screen reflection and diffusion, enhance readability, and reduce fingerprints and staining.

Matte PET film is usually applied in packaging design to give a unique visual effect and texture, with an elegant appearance and extra protection, and is suitable for high-end product packaging.

Matte PET film creates unique visual effects and textures for up-market product packaging. It gives the package a nice look and extra protection.

It is common nowadays to find matte PET films used to produce labels, tags, or decorations. These films provide non-reflective surfaces that ensure the clarity and visibility of text and images. They are also easy to print on and color.

Furthermore, matte white film PET is increasingly popular for its aesthetic appeal and functional benefits, offering a sleek and modern finish to various products.

Matte PET Film Detail Disply

Typical Laminations with Matte PET Film

Matte PET film is most often used as the printed outer layer in multi-layer laminates where a low-gloss appearance and high durability are required. Below are some common structures that use matte PET:

A classic laminate for flexible packaging that requires a soft, non-glare surface and reliable heat sealing.
The matte PET layer provides stiffness, scratch resistance and a premium printed appearance, while the PE layer offers moisture barrier and seal strength for pillow pouches and flat bags.

  • Matte PET / CPP

Used for lidding films, retortable or hot-fill packs and flow-wraps that need higher seal strength and temperature resistance.
Matte PET gives an elegant printed outer surface; CPP works as the inner sealant with strong hot-tack and robust seal integrity.

  • Matte PET / VMPET / PE (Matte PET / Aluminized PET / PE)

A high-barrier matte laminate structure for coffee, tea, nutritional powders and dry foods that require oxygen, moisture and light protection.

Matte PET acts as the printed outer layer with a soft, non-reflective look, aluminized PET (VMPET) provides metal-like oxygen and light barrier, and PE ensures secure sealing and machinability.

  • Matte PET / ALOx PET / PE

A transparent high-barrier solution when you need both product visibility and a refined matte finish.
Clear matte PET offers a low-gloss printed surface, ALOx PET delivers transparent barrier performance, and PE works as the sealant layer for stable packaging on high-speed lines.

If you already have an existing laminate structure, you can send us the current design or datasheet. Our team will help you switch the outer gloss PET film to matte PET, or optimize the structure for better shelf appearance and total cost.

Ordering & Customization Checklist for Matte PET Film

To prepare an accurate quotation and technical recommendation, it is helpful if you can share as much of the following information as possible.

If you are not familiar with all of these parameters, just tell us what you pack and how you print and laminate – our engineers will guide you step by step.

  • Packed product & end use

What will you pack or protect with matte PET film (cosmetics boxes, flexible food packaging, labels, book covers, screen protectors, industrial overlays, etc.)?
Please also indicate the target market or region to check any regulatory requirements.

  • Matte level & appearance

Target surface effect (low, medium or high matte), clear matte or white matte, and whether you need a very soft, paper-like look or only slight gloss reduction.

  • Printing & converting process

Your printing method (gravure, flexo, offset, screen, digital), coating process and lamination type (solvent-based, solventless or dry lamination).

This helps us optimize surface treatment, slip level and winding quality.

Matte PET Film: A Sophisticated Choice for Diverse Applications

Elegance and performance in one film

CloudFilm’s matte PET film is designed for brands and converters who want more than just a plastic film. It combines a soft, low-gloss appearance with the strength and stability of BOPET, making it ideal for premium packaging, labels, book covers and protective films that must look good and last long.

By carefully controlling the matte level and surface treatment, we help you achieve the exact visual effect you need – from subtle, paper-like surfaces for publishing to refined matte finishes for luxury cosmetics and gift packaging.

From screen protectors to luxury packaging

In electronics, our matte PET films are widely used for anti-glare screen protectors, HMI overlays and instrument panels where reflections and fingerprints must be minimized.

In packaging, matte PET can be used alone as a lamination film or combined with clear, metallized or high-barrier films to build structures that protect aroma, flavour and sensitive ingredients while delivering a calm, premium look on shelf. It works perfectly with PET thermal lamination film and soft touch polyester film when you need a complete set of surface-finishing options.

FAQ

What are the main differences between gloss and matte PET film?

Gloss PET film has a smooth, high-gloss surface that reflects light and makes colours appear very bright and vivid. Matte PET film has a micro-rough surface that diffuses light, resulting in a soft, low-reflection appearance.
Gloss films are preferred when you need strong shelf impact and high clarity; matte films are better when you want to reduce glare, improve readability or create a calm, premium look.

What are the primary applications of matte PET film?

Matte PET film is widely used for labels and nameplates, book and magazine covers, brochures, box lamination, flexible packaging, anti-glare screen protectors, control panel overlays and other printed graphics that need a low-gloss finish and good durability.

Is matte PET film suitable for food packaging laminates?

Yes. Matte PET film is often used as the printed outer layer in laminates such as matte PET / PE, matte PET / CPP or matte PET / VMPET / PE for snacks, coffee, tea, nutritional powders and other dry foods.

For direct food contact and regulatory compliance, please share your target product and market so we can recommend suitable film grades and laminate structures.

What thicknesses and widths can CloudFilm supply for matte PET film?

Our standard matte PET film grades typically cover 12–50 μm in thickness and 300–2000 mm in width. We usually supply jumbo rolls on 3″ or 6″ paper cores, with a typical minimum order quantity of about 500 kg per specification.

If you require thicknesses or widths outside this range, please contact us with your target so we can evaluate feasibility.

How should matte PET film be handled and stored?

Matte PET film should be stored in a clean, dry and temperature-controlled environment, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
When handling the film, it is recommended to use clean gloves to avoid oil, dust and fingerprints. During printing and converting, machine settings may need fine-tuning to match the matte surface and maintain its appearance.

How is matte PET film different from soft touch polyester film?

Both films have low-gloss surfaces, but soft touch polyester film offers an even softer, velvety feel and very strong fingerprint hiding. Matte PET film has a more traditional matte texture and is often preferred when you need a balance of printability, durability and cost.
If you are unsure which finish to choose, we can provide both matte PET and soft touch PET samples for comparison.

Can CloudFilm match my existing matte PET film grade or brand?

Yes. If you are currently using another matte PET film, you can send us the technical datasheet, key parameters or sample photos. Based on your printing, lamination and converting process, our engineers will recommend an equivalent grade or optimized structure and provide trial rolls for testing.
