Metallized CPP Film Description

CloudFilm, the expert supplier of metallized CPP (cast polypropylene) film in China, is your optimal option when finding a high-quality metallized CPP film in China.

The high-performance and durable metalized CPP film is coated with a layer of metal, usually aluminum. This film is made from high-quality polypropylene resin through melt extrusion and cast film extrusion, followed by vacuum metallization treatment to achieve the final product.

The CPP metalized film shows almost identical properties to aluminum foil at a cheaper cost. It is a one-layer corona-treated heat-sealable film with a thickness ranging from 20 to 30 micrometers. Commonly, CPP metalized  film is coated onto the BOPP (biaxially oriented polypropylene) or polyester substrates.

Metallized CPP film has outstanding barrier properties, preventing the permeation of oxygen and water vapor and extending the foods’ shelf life.

Moreover, VMCPP film boasts high reflectivity and gloss, significantly enhancing the appearance of the packaging and making products more appealing on store shelves. It has a broad application in packaging electronic and pharmaceutical products as it protects against moisture, dust, and other environmental weights.

Metallized CPP Film Applications

  • Snacks, biscuits and confectionery
VMCPP is widely used as the inner sealing layer in BOPP/VMCPP and PET/VMCPP laminates for chips, biscuits, chocolate and pillow candy packs, providing high barrier and reliable seals for flow-wrap and pillow packaging.

  • Tea, coffee and dry beverages
The metallic gloss and strong aroma barrier of metallized CPP make it ideal for stand-up pouches and pillow packs for tea leaves, instant coffee and drink powders. You can combine VMCPP with CloudFilm’s flexible pouches solutions.

  • Pharmaceutical and healthcare packaging
Metallized CPP provides an additional barrier and light-shielding layer for sachets, overwraps and medical device pouches.

  • Electronics and industrial components
When laminated with PET or BOPP, VMCPP helps protect electronic components, cables and industrial parts from moisture, dust and contamination. For static-sensitive products, metallized CPP can be combined with CPP Anti Static Film grades from our CPP Film portfolio.

  • Cosmetics, premium gifts and decorative packaging
The metallic finish of metallized CPP enhances shelf appeal for cosmetic sachets, sample pouches and gift packs. It is often used together with shaped or 3-side seal pouches to achieve strong visual impact.

  • Agricultural and building insulation applications
In some cases, metallized CPP is used as a reflective and insulating layer in greenhouse films, building insulation composites and other technical laminates, helping to regulate temperature and improve energy efficiency.

Metalized CPP Film_ Unmatched Quality for Optimal Product Protection

FAQ

What is metallized CPP (VMCPP) film?

Metallized CPP (VMCPP) film is a cast polypropylene (CPP) film coated with a very thin layer of aluminum by vacuum metallizing. This combination gives the film high oxygen and moisture barrier, strong heat-seal performance and a metallic appearance, making it suitable as the inner sealing layer in laminated snack, tea, coffee and technical packaging.

How is metallized CPP different from metallized BOPP and metallized PET film?
  • Base film and flexibility
Metallized CPP is based on cast polypropylene, so it is softer and more flexible than oriented films. Metallized BOPP and metallized PET use biaxially oriented films and are stiffer.
  • Role in laminates
Metallized CPP is usually used as the inner sealing layer in structures such as BOPP/VMCPP or PET/VMCPP. Metallized BOPP and metallized PET are more often used as outer barrier layers when high stiffness, print quality or dimensional stability are required.

  • Heat resistance
Metallized PET offers the highest heat resistance, followed by metallized BOPP. Metallized CPP has a lower melting point but excellent sealability, which is why it is preferred as the sealing layer in many food laminates.

What Are the Typical Applications of Metalized CPP Film, and How Do They Differ From Those of Other Metalized Films?

Typical Applications of Metalized CPP Film vs. Other Metalized Films:

Packaging Applications: Metalized CPP is commonly used in flexible packaging, such as snack foods, bakery products, and confectionery. It’s often chosen for its seal strength, clarity, and barrier properties.

Differences in Applications: Compared to Metalized PET or BOPP, Metalized CPP is often preferred for applications requiring better heat seal ability and flexibility. Metalized PET films, on the other hand, are typically used for applications needing higher mechanical strength and barrier. In contrast, Metalized BOPP films are often chosen for their higher stiffness and gloss.

Specialized Uses: Metalized CPP can also be used in decorative materials, labeling, and lamination applications. Its suitability for specialized uses might differ from other metalized films due to its unique flexibility, heat sealability, and barrier properties.

What are typical laminate structures using CloudFilm metallized CPP?

Common laminate structures include:

  • BOPP/VMCPP for pillow packs and flow wraps of snacks, biscuits and confectionery;

  • PET/VMCPP when higher stiffness, print quality and temperature resistance are needed;

  • Clear CPP/VMCPP for PP-rich laminates where a softer hand-feel is desired.

CloudFilm can also advise on more complex laminates that combine metallized CPP with Clear CPP Film, Retort CPP Film or other CPP grades.

What thicknesses, widths and cores can CloudFilm supply for metallized CPP?

Our standard metallized CPP film thickness ranges from 19–60 μm, with widths from 300–2000 mm and 3″/6″ cores, as shown in the technical data and specification table on this page. Other custom sizes can be discussed case by case.

Is CloudFilm metallized CPP safe for direct food contact? What certifications are available?

Yes. CloudFilm’s CPP and metallized films are produced with food-contact compliant materials and can be supplied with ISO9001, CE, UL and third-party test reports such as FDA, RoHS, REACH and SGS upon request. Please share your target market and compliance requirements so we can prepare the appropriate documentation.

Can metallized CPP be used for high-temperature or retort packaging?

Standard metallized CPP is designed for conventional heat sealing and typical hot-fill or pasteurization conditions. For true high-temperature retort processes (for example 121°C or higher), we recommend using dedicated Retort CPP Film grades in your laminate structure, such as PET/AL/Retort CPP or PET/Retort CPP, rather than standard VMCPP alone.

Do you offer free samples? What is the MOQ and typical lead time?

Yes. Free A4 sheets or small sample rolls of metallized CPP can be provided for basic evaluation. For regular orders, the minimum order quantity is typically 500 kg per thickness/grade, and lead time depends on order size and current production schedule. We will confirm the exact lead time when we quote.

Can metallized CPP film be printed and laminated easily?

Metallized CPP from CloudFilm is designed for good printability and lamination performance. One-side corona treatment allows it to be laminated with BOPP, PET, PE and other substrates using standard solvent-based or solventless adhesives. For gravure or flexo printing, our technical team can share recommended surface tensions and ink systems on request.

Is metallized CPP film recyclable or sustainable?

Metallized CPP is based on polypropylene, which is part of the polyolefin recycling stream in many markets. The thin aluminum layer helps reduce material weight compared with solid foil while still providing high barrier. However, recyclability depends on local collection and sorting systems. If you are developing recyclable or mono-material structures, CloudFilm can also support with PP-rich laminates and share alternative high-barrier options (for example clear barrier films) depending on your sustainability goals.
