Gloss PET Film Applications

  1. Printing & graphic arts

  • Labels and stickers – Gloss PET film is widely used as label face stock for high-resolution printing, in-mold labels and durable product labels.

  • Graphic overlays and nameplates – Its smooth, hard surface makes it suitable for control panels, membrane switches and durable graphic overlays.

  • Posters, book covers and POS displays – The high gloss finish enhances color vibrancy and visual impact in retail environments.

  1. Flexible packaging & laminates

  • Flexible packaging – Used as the outer web in PET/PE, PET/CPP and other laminates for snacks, coffee, dry foods and daily chemicals.

  • Window and display films – Clear gloss PET can be used as transparent windows in pouches, cartons and boxes to showcase the product inside.

  • Lidding and wrap films – Serves as a stiff, glossy top layer in lidding films and overwraps where appearance and strength are important.

  1. Electronics & industrial applications

  • Electrical insulation – Gloss PET film is used as an insulating layer in motors, transformers, flexible circuits and electronic components.

  • Release liner base – It can be coated to produce release films for adhesive tapes, labels and protective films.

  • Industrial laminates – Acts as a base film in technical laminates that require dimensional stability and high tensile strength.

  1. Solar, construction & acoustic uses

  • Solar panel backsheets – As part of multilayer backsheets, gloss PET film contributes to weather resistance and dimensional stability.

  • Sound and vibration damping – Used in composite structures for soundproofing and vibration damping in construction and automotive applications.

Typical Laminations with Gloss PET Film

Gloss PET film is most often used as the printed outer layer in multi-layer laminates.
Below are some common structures where gloss PET plays a key role. The final design will depend on your packed product, filling temperature and packaging line; our engineers can fine-tune thickness, adhesive and sealant films to match your needs.

  • PET (Gloss) / PE – A classic laminate for snacks, coffee, nuts, frozen foods and daily chemicals.

The gloss PET layer provides stiffness, strength and a high-gloss printed surface, while the PE layer offers reliable heat sealing and moisture barrier for pillow pouches and flat bags.

  • PET (Gloss) / CPP – Used for lidding films, hot-fill pouches and applications that demand higher seal strength and heat resistance.

PET gives a smooth, glossy outer layer for high-quality printing; CPP works as the inner sealant for stronger hot-tack and better high-temperature performance.

  • PET (Gloss) / VMPET / PE – A high-barrier laminate for products that require long shelf life and strong light protection, such as coffee, tea, milk powder and dry foods.

Gloss PET acts as the printed outer layer, aluminized PET (VMPET) provides excellent oxygen, moisture and light barrier, and PE ensures secure sealing.
This structure is also a natural upgrade path when you move from clear PET/PE to barrier laminates.

  • PET (Gloss) / ALOx PET / PE – A transparent high-barrier option when you need both strong shelf appeal and product visibility.

The combination of clear gloss PET and transparent ALOx PET helps protect aroma and nutrients while keeping the product visible through the package, ideal for premium snacks, dried fruits and pet treats.

If you are already using another PET-based laminate, you can send us your current structure or datasheet. Our team will help you match an equivalent gloss PET grade or optimize the design for better performance and total cost.

Ordering & Customization Checklist for Gloss PET Film

To prepare an accurate quotation and technical recommendation, it helps if you can share as much of the following information as possible.

If you are not familiar with all the parameters, just tell us what you pack and how you print and laminate – our engineers will guide you step by step.

  • Packed product & end use

What will you pack or produce with gloss PET film (snacks, coffee, labels, pharmaceutical pouches, electronics insulation, solar backsheets, etc.)?
Please also indicate the target market or region to check regulatory requirements.

  • Converting process

Your printing method (gravure, flexo, digital, offset, screen), coating process and lamination type (solvent-based, solventless or dry lamination).
This helps us optimize surface treatment and winding quality.

  • Thickness & width range

Target film thickness (for example 12–23 μm) and preferred width range.
If you have specific tolerance or mechanical requirements, please mention them.

  • Surface treatment & functionality

One-side or two-side corona treatment, required surface energy (dyne level) and whether the film will be printed, coated, metallized or used as a clear protective layer.

  • Optical and appearance requirements

Any special needs for clarity, haze, gloss level, or color (clear, tinted or white).
For premium labels and graphic films, we can recommend grades with very low haze and high gloss.

  • Mechanical & thermal performance

Key requirements for tensile strength, shrinkage, maximum process temperature and dimensional stability on high-speed lines.

  • Slitting & roll specifications

Core size (3″ or 6″), maximum outer diameter or roll weight, preferred roll length and packaging requirements (pallet, carton, etc.).

  • Slip level & special properties

Target coefficient of friction (COF), anti-static properties, release coatings or special slip levels that your line requires.

  • Estimated volume

Estimated annual volume and typical order quantity per shipment, and whether you prefer jumbo rolls or slit-to-width rolls.

Not sure about several of these points? No problem – simply send us photos of your current package or a datasheet of the film you are using, and we will help you specify a suitable gloss PET grade and structure.

FAQ

Are the Densities of PET Glossy Film and Matte Film the Same?

The densities of gloss PET film and matte films are essentially the same.

Generally, the density range of PET is from 1.37 to 1.40 g/cm³.

This is because both glossy and matte films are based on PET (polyethylene terephthalate). Still, during the production process, the formula of the raw materials for matte films is adjusted based on the original PET transparent film by adding silicon dioxide, which renders the release film non-sticky or slightly sticky when in contact with specific materials under certain conditions.

The density of both PET glossy and matte films should be within the range of 1.37-1.40 g/cm³. The specific density may vary due to differences in the production process.

What are the main applications of Gloss PET Film?

It is widely used in packaging (especially for food and consumer goods), printing (like labels and decals), laminating, and in the electrical industry as insulation material. Its aesthetic appeal also makes it popular for point-of-sale displays and graphic arts.

What are the benefits of using Gloss PET Film?

Gloss PET film offers superior strength, dimensional stability, and resistance to moisture, solvents, and oils. Its glossy surface enhances the visual appeal of products, making it ideal for high-quality printing and packaging.

Can gloss PET film be used for food packaging?

Yes, gloss PET film is often used as part of multilayer structures for food packaging, typically as the printed outer layer or a middle layer combined with PE, CPP or other sealable films. For direct food contact, local regulations and specific grade approvals must be considered. Please contact us with your target application, and we can recommend suitable film structures and provide available compliance information.

What thicknesses and widths can CloudFilm supply for gloss PET film?

Our standard gloss PET film grades typically cover 12–35 μm in thickness and 300–2000 mm in width. We supply jumbo rolls on 3″ or 6″ paper cores, and the usual minimum order quantity is about 1000 kg per specification. If you have special requirements outside this range, please share your target with us for evaluation.

How is gloss PET film different from gloss BOPP film?

Compared with gloss BOPP, gloss PET film (BOPET) generally offers higher tensile strength, better heat resistance and better dimensional stability. It is more suitable for demanding printing and lamination lines, high-temperature processes and technical applications. Gloss BOPP is more flexible and often more cost-effective for standard food packaging. Many converters use gloss PET when they need higher stiffness, higher temperature resistance or a more durable graphic surface.

Can CloudFilm match my existing PET film grade or brand?

Yes. If you are currently using another PET film grade or brand, you can send us the technical datasheet, key parameters or sample photos. Our engineers will help you match an equivalent gloss PET film or recommend an alternative structure based on your process (printing, lamination, slitting) and end-use requirements.
