BOPE Film Description

CloudFilm is one of the largest manufacturers of  BOPE films in China.

We are committed to offering sustainable BOPE packaging solutions and innovative, customized services with high quality at a competitive price to meet your diverse needs.

BOPE, standing for biaxially oriented polyethylene, is a film made from polyethylene by a unique biaxial stretching process. It is an innovative BOPE plastic material.

With its outstanding performance, BOPE film has gained an essential position in the packaging industry.

The BOPE film produced by CloudFilm features extremely high flatness and minimal thickness variation, making it suitable for nine-color or even ten-color printing.

The BOPE film also has significant advantages in its mono-material application. It can be used as a replacement for PA or PET with an all-PE material structure.

Compared to traditional multilayer composite materials, this mono-material structure is simple to recycle and reuse, complies with environmental and sustainable requirements, and has a recyclability rate of up to 100%.

The strength and rigidity of BOPE films are about 2-3 times higher than traditional PE’s. Thus, it can withstand more significant external impact and tension.

It is suitable for packing sharp items and heavy stuff, significantly reducing the chance of bag breakage and lowering costs.

Moreover, its barrier properties, transparency, and heat resistance are superior to traditional PE.

BOPE projects often start from a simple idea: replace PET or PA with PE to build a recyclable structure. Share a few basic details and CloudFilm will help you turn that idea into a workable film specification:

  • End use & packed product – for example: frozen meat, snacks, pet food, detergent or pharmaceutical products.

  • Planned structure & thickness – such as BOPE/PE, BOPE/EVOH-PE, BOPE/MDO PE, and target thickness range.

  • Film width & order volume – required width, roll diameter or core size, and estimated annual usage or first trial order.

If you are not sure about all parameters, simply send us photos of your current package, basic dimensions, or an existing spec sheet. Our engineers will help you refine the structure, recommend BOPE grades, and prepare free sample rolls for testing.

BOPE Film Applications

BOPE film is especially powerful in applications where you need both strength and recyclability:

Food & Frozen Packaging – Used for vacuum bags, frozen meat, cheese and ready meals where puncture resistance and low-temperature toughness are important. BOPE works well as the outer layer in BOPE/PE or BOPE/EVOH-PE structures.

Snacks, Confectionery & Nut Packaging – High clarity and stiffness make BOPE suitable for flow-wrap and pillow packs. For finished pouch solutions, you can also refer to our Candy Packaging Bags and Flexible Pouches series.

Pet Food & Pet Treats – BOPE film supports recyclable mono-PE pet food pouches with good stiffness for standing and strong heat-seal strength. It can be combined with our PE Pouches for a complete packaging solution.

Household & Personal Care Products – Detergent, dishwashing liquid and refill packs benefit from BOPE’s toughness and drop resistance while maintaining attractive print and branding.

Industrial & E-Commerce Packaging – For heavy or sharp items such as hardware, spare parts and components, BOPE improves puncture resistance and reduces bag breakage during logistics.

BOPE Film Detail Disply

How Does BOPE Film Compare to MDO PE and Other Films?

• BOPE vs. MDO PE – BOPE is stretched in both MD and TD, so its strength and stiffness are more balanced. MDO PE is stretched mainly in the machine direction and is often used as a sealing layer. Many mono-PE structures combine both, for example BOPE/MDO PE or BOPE/PE. For details, see our MDO PE Film page and the article “MDO PE vs BOPE” .

• BOPE vs. PET – PET offers very high temperature resistance and stiffness but is harder to recycle when laminated with PE. BOPE provides a lighter, PE-based alternative for applications that do not require retort temperatures, allowing you to move from PET/PE to BOPE/PE structures.

• BOPE vs. BOPP – BOPP is widely used for snacks and confectionery packaging but normally enters PP recycling streams. If your goal is to keep everything in PE, BOPE is the better outer layer choice for mono-PE laminates.

FAQ

What thicknesses and widths are available for BOPE film?

Standard BOPE film thicknesses are 25 µm and 40 µm, with other gauges available on request. CloudFilm typically supplies widths from 300 mm up to 2,000 mm to match different slitting and printing setups. If you share your current film spec or bag size, we can recommend a suitable thickness and width for your line.

Can BOPE film be used in fully recyclable mono-PE packaging?

Yes. BOPE is designed to act as the oriented outer layer in all-PE laminates, such as BOPE//PE or BOPE//EVOH-PE. These structures can enter established PE recycling streams when matched with compatible inks and adhesives.

What laminate structures commonly use BOPE film?

Typical structures include:
• BOPE/PE for general food and consumer-goods packaging.
• BOPE/MDO PE for higher stiffness mono-PE pouches.
• BOPE/EVOH-PE where extra oxygen barrier is needed, such as pet food or coffee.
• BOPE/PE//PE as a robust, fully recyclable structure for heavy or sharp products.
Our technical team can also review your current PET/PE or PA/PE laminate and suggest BOPE-based alternatives.

Is BOPE film suitable for high-speed printing and packaging lines?

Yes. BOPE film has high flatness and tight thickness tolerance, which helps maintain stable tension during printing, lamination and form-fill-seal. CloudFilm’s grades are designed for up to 9–10 color flexo or gravure printing and are compatible with common solvent-based and solvent-free adhesive systems. Before mass production, we recommend a trial roll so your team can fine-tune tension, sealing temperature and knife settings.

How does BOPE film perform at low temperatures or in frozen applications?

Compared with standard PE films, BOPE offers higher tensile strength and puncture resistance, even at low temperatures. This makes it suitable for frozen foods, ice cream and refrigerated products where bags may face impact during transportation and handling. For very demanding applications, we can combine BOPE with other PE-based layers to balance stiffness, toughness and seal strength.

What is the MOQ, lead time, and can I get samples?

For BOPE film, the typical minimum order quantity is around 1,000 kg per thickness or specification. Lead time usually ranges from 15–25 days after order confirmation, depending on the grade and current production schedule. Free A4 sheets or short trial rolls are available for testing; please contact us with your application details to arrange samples.

Can CloudFilm provide both BOPE film rolls and finished pouches?

Yes. CloudFilm can supply BOPE film rolls for your own laminating and converting, and we also offer finished PE-based pouches through our PE Pouches and Recyclable Pouches product lines. This allows you to choose between film-only supply and a one-stop solution, depending on your in-house capabilities.

Are CloudFilm’s BOPE films food-contact safe and compliant?

BOPE films can be produced with food-contact compliant raw materials that meet common regulations such as FDA 21 CFR and EU 10/2011, when requested at the inquiry stage. We can provide relevant test reports or declarations of compliance for confirmed projects. For non-food industrial or secondary packaging, we can optimize formulations more for mechanical performance and cost efficiency.
