Packaging Film Roll Description

A packaging film roll – sometimes called roll film packaging or rollstock – is a continuous, flexible web of plastic or laminated materials wound on a core. It is designed to be formed, filled and sealed on automatic packaging machines, instead of using pre-made bags.

At CloudFilm, packaging film rolls are produced in several main material families: BOPP film, PET film, PE film and multi-layer laminates that can include CPP, PA and aluminum or metallized layers. By adjusting the structure, we can balance clarity, stiffness, barrier and sealing performance for your specific product.

For example, you may choose BOPP/CPP for snacks, PET/PE for flow-wrap packs, PA/PE for vacuum bags or PET/AL/PE for high-barrier dry products.

For buyers who are still comparing different plastic film types, our technical guides on PE laminated films and on common plastic film types provide a deeper explanation of properties and typical uses, and can help you shortlist the right material before we design your packaging film roll.

Compared with simple single-layer films, CloudFilm’s laminated packaging film rolls can combine moisture, oxygen and light barrier with good puncture resistance and stable sealing windows. This helps extend shelf life, protect flavor and aroma, and keep your packaging looking fresh throughout storage and transport.

Depending on your market, we can supply food-contact compliant materials and ink systems and support you with documentation for regulatory audits. At the same time, we actively develop recyclable and mono-material structures, such as all-PE laminates and BOPE or MDO PE based solutions, to help you reach your sustainability targets.

Below are some representative structures and ranges that CloudFilm can supply as packaging film rolls and rollstock:

  • Common Structures
BOPP/CPP, BOPP/PE, PET/PE, PET/CPP, PA/PE, PET/AL/PE, PET/VMPET/PE and other custom laminates. For detailed laminated rollstock options, you can also refer to our Roll Stock, PET/PE Film and PA/PE Film product pages.
  • Thickness Range
Approx. 20–150 μm for most food, pharmaceutical and household products, and up to around 200 μm for some heavy-duty or industrial wraps.
  • Roll Width
Typically from 200–1500 mm, customized to match your VFFS, HFFS, flow-wrap or overwrapping equipment.
  • Core Size & Roll Diameter
Standard 3″ (76 mm) cores, with 2″ or 6″ cores available on request. Maximum roll diameter can be set according to your unwinding and handling limits.
  • Finishes & Functions
Glossy, matte or registered matte finishes, with optional easy-tear lines, anti-fog, anti-static, high oxygen / moisture barrier, aroma barrier and laser scoring.
  • Printed & Unprinted Options
Both printed and unprinted packaging film rolls are available. If you need fully printed rollstock for branded packs, please also check our Roll Stock product page.

Packaging Film Roll Applications

Food & Beverage Packaging
Packaging film rolls are widely used for snacks, biscuits, coffee, powdered drinks, frozen food and multipack beverage wraps. Depending on the product, you may choose BOPP/CPP or BOPP/PE for pillow bags and gusseted bags, PET/PE for flow-wrap packs, or PE shrink film for bundle wrapping. For fully printed branded packs, many customers combine this page with our Roll Stock and PET/PE Film products.

Pharmaceutical & Healthcare
For OTC products, nutritional supplements, medical devices and diagnostic kits, packaging film rolls can be converted into sachets, strip packs and device pouches. High-barrier structures such as PA/PE or PET/AL/PE help protect sensitive products against moisture and oxygen. When very high barrier is required, you can also consider our PA/PE Film and Food Grade Aluminum Foil solutions.

Logistics & Warehousing
In logistics, packaging film rolls are commonly used as stretch and shrink films to stabilize pallets and bundles. CloudFilm can supply PE Stretch Film and PE Shrink Film rolls that help prevent load shifting, spillage and surface damage during transportation and storage, while keeping labels readable.

Manufacturing & Industrial Components
Many industrial customers use packaging film rolls to wrap metal parts, electronic components, chemicals and building materials. Depending on the risk of corrosion or contamination, films can be designed with corrosion inhibitor additives, dust protection or light barrier. For pallet-level protection and large equipment covers, you can also look at PE Roll and Stretch Hood Film from our PE film portfolio.

Agriculture & Construction
PE-based packaging film rolls are also used as agricultural covers, silage film and temporary protection for construction materials like pipes, cables and panels. CloudFilm can tailor thickness, width and UV resistance to match outdoor conditions and installation methods.

FAQ

What types of packaging film rolls can CloudFilm supply?

CloudFilm can supply BOPP, PET, PE, CPP and PA films in mono-layer and laminated structures, including common combinations like BOPP/CPP, PET/PE, PA/PE and PET/AL/PE. We offer both printed and unprinted packaging film rolls and rollstock, depending on your product and branding requirements.

What information do you need to quote a packaging film roll?

The most helpful information includes your product type and filling method, target film structure (if known), required thickness and roll width, core size, intended packaging machine (VFFS, HFFS or flow-wrap), and estimated monthly or annual volume. If you already have a datasheet or sample from your current supplier, you can send it to us for faster matching.

What is your typical minimum order quantity (MOQ)?

For standard packaging film rolls, the typical MOQ is usually around 1000 kg per structure or design, depending on material and printing requirements. For trial rolls or new projects, we can sometimes accept smaller quantities; please contact our sales team with your project details.

Can CloudFilm match the film I am currently using from another supplier?

In many cases yes. If you provide us with the current film datasheet and a small sample, we can analyze the structure, thickness and key properties and then recommend an equivalent CloudFilm grade. We can then send trial rolls for testing on your line before you switch suppliers.

Are recyclable or mono-material packaging film roll solutions available?

Yes. CloudFilm develops recyclable all-PE and PE-based packaging film roll structures, including combinations with MDO PE or BOPE, to support mono-material and downgauging projects. We can discuss your local recycling regulations and design a structure that balances sustainability and performance.

Which packaging machines are compatible with CloudFilm packaging film rolls?

Our films are designed for common vertical and horizontal form-fill-seal (VFFS / HFFS) lines, as well as flow-wrap, overwrapping and some thermoforming equipment. When you share your machine type and sealing system, our technical team will recommend suitable structures and sealing parameters.

Do you offer printing and cylinder / plate-making services?

Yes. For printed packaging film rolls, CloudFilm can provide gravure printing up to 9–10 colors, together with cylinder or plate-making services. We will confirm artwork, cylinder cost and any color-matching requirements with you before mass production.

What documents can you provide for food-contact and quality control?

Depending on the structure and market, we can provide technical data sheets, certificates of analysis (COA), and food-contact declarations that comply with relevant regulations (for example EU or FDA-related standards). We can also support basic performance tests if your QA team requires verification.
