LDPE Film Description

What is LDPE Film?

LDPE (Low-Density Polyethylene) film is a soft, flexible and transparent polyethylene film with a typical density of 0.91–0.93 g/cm³. Its highly branched molecular structure gives LDPE excellent toughness and tear resistance, making it a classic choice for everyday bags, liners, protective sheets and agricultural films.

Key Properties of LDPE Film

• Soft Yet Strong: LDPE film can be stretched and folded repeatedly without cracking, protecting products during handling and transport.

• Excellent Clarity: High transparency helps showcase the packaged product, especially for food and retail packaging.

• Good Moisture & Chemical Resistance: LDPE provides a reliable barrier against water vapor and many household chemicals, fertilizers and detergents.

• Low Melting Point & Easy Sealing: LDPE seals at relatively low temperatures, making it suitable for high-speed bag-making, FFS lines and lamination.

• Versatile Processability: Compatible with blown film, cast film and lamination, and can be blended with LLDPE or HDPE to tune strength and stiffness.

Food-Contact & Safety

CloudFilm supplies food-contact LDPE films that comply with mainstream food packaging regulations in major markets. These grades are widely used for frozen food bags, bakery film, produce wrap and inner liners in multi-layer food packaging structures.

For outer webs or higher temperature resistance, you can combine LDPE with films such as PET/PE laminates or PE pouches from CloudFilm.

Recyclability & Mono-Material Solutions

LDPE film is identified by resin code “4” and can enter many PE recycling streams when collected properly. As part of CloudFilm’s mono-material PE packaging solutions, LDPE films can be combined with MDO PE, BOPE and recyclable pouches to build all-PE structures that support Design for Recycling goals.

LDPE Film Applications

1.  Flexible Packaging & Bags

LDPE is widely used for lightweight shopping bags, garment bags, zipper bags and inner liners. Its soft hand-feel and good sealability make it a natural choice for everyday PE pouches and simple pillow packs, and it can also serve as the inner layer in multi-layer pouch structures.

2. Protective Stretch Wrap

When formulated as LDPE-based stretch film, the material offers excellent cling and elasticity for bundling products, unitizing pallets and stabilizing loads in warehouses and logistics. For more demanding pallet wrapping projects, you can also combine LDPE with our dedicated PE stretch film solutions.

3. Food-Grade Packaging

Food-contact LDPE film is used for bakery film, frozen food bags, vegetable and fruit wrap and inner liners for food pouches. It helps keep products fresh while maintaining clear product visibility. For more complex food packs, LDPE can work together with PET/PE laminates or high-barrier PE PA PE films supplied by CloudFilm.

4. Industrial Liners & Covers

LDPE film is widely used as box liners, drum liners, construction covers and protective sheets for machinery and components. It offers a cost-effective moisture and dust barrier and can be upgraded to dedicated PE protective film grades when specific adhesion control is needed.

5. Agricultural Film

In agriculture, LDPE film is used for greenhouse covers, tunnel film and mulch film. It protects crops from wind and rain, moderates soil temperature and helps retain moisture. Depending on the climate and crop value, LDPE can be blended with LLDPE or combined with dedicated silage film solutions from CloudFilm.

FAQ

Is LDPE film recyclable?

Yes. LDPE film is generally recyclable and is identified by resin code “4”. Many regions operate dedicated collection schemes for PE films. However, acceptance rules vary, so it is important to confirm with your local recycler or waste management partner. CloudFilm can help you design LDPE-based mono-material structures that better fit existing PE recycling streams.

Is LDPE film safe for direct food contact?

Food-contact LDPE grades supplied by CloudFilm are suitable for direct contact with many food products such as bread, frozen foods and produce. When you send an inquiry, please clarify that you need a food-contact grade and share your target market so we can select the right formulation and documentation for you.

What thickness and width ranges are available from CloudFilm?

Typical LDPE film thickness ranges from about 20 to 200 μm, with film widths from around 300 to 3000 mm, similar to our PE roll and HDPE film ranges. Within this window we can fine-tune the structure based on bag strength, stiffness and processing requirements.

Can LDPE film be printed or laminated?

Yes. LDPE film can be corona-treated on one or both sides to support flexo and gravure printing and lamination. In many food packaging structures, LDPE acts as the inner sealing layer while outer webs such as BOPP/PE or PET/PE carry the printing. CloudFilm can supply LDPE film, PE-based laminates and high-barrier PE PA PE films so you can build a complete packaging structure with one partner.

What is the difference between LDPE, LLDPE and HDPE film, and how should I choose?

LDPE is softer, more flexible and very clear, making it ideal for bags, inner liners and certain agricultural films. LLDPE offers higher tensile strength and puncture resistance at similar or lower thickness, and is often used for stretch film and heavy-duty bags. HDPE is stiffer with higher strength and a better moisture barrier, suitable for heavy-duty sacks, geomembranes and industrial liners.

If you prioritize softness and clarity, LDPE is usually the starting point. If strength and downgauging are critical, LLDPE or blends of LDPE/LLDPE may be more appropriate. For very high strength or geomembrane-type uses, HDPE film is preferred. CloudFilm can compare your target application against our LDPE, LLDPE and HDPE film options and recommend the most suitable combination.

How should I choose between LDPE film, PE roll and ready-made PE pouches?

If you have your own bag-making or converting equipment, sourcing LDPE film or PE roll gives you the lowest cost per package and maximum flexibility in bag size. If you do not plan to invest in converting equipment, or you prefer to receive ready-to-fill packaging, CloudFilm can supply PE pouches, stand up pouches and other pouch types made from LDPE-based PE films.

What information should I provide when requesting an LDPE film quotation or sample?

To prepare an accurate offer, please share at least: end use, thickness and width, color, required additives (if any), whether printing or lamination is needed, preferred roll length/core size and your expected volume. Attaching your current film datasheet is also very helpful for us to propose an equivalent LDPE film grade.

Does CloudFilm support recyclable and mono-material PE packaging projects using LDPE?

Yes. LDPE plays an important role in CloudFilm’s mono-material PE solutions. By combining LDPE films with MDO PE, BOPE and recyclable pouches, we help customers move from traditional mixed-material laminates to PE-only structures that are easier to recycle and aligned with emerging regulations.
