Retort CPP Film

CloudFilm’s retortable CPP (RCPP) film is a high-temperature-resistant cast polypropylene film engineered for retort pouches and other high-pressure steam-sterilization packaging. It is widely used as the inner sealing layer in PET/AL/RCPP, PET/NY/RCPP and other laminates for long-shelf-life food and medical products.

  • High-temperature resistance: withstands 121–135°C retort without loss of integrity

  • Reliable sealing: strong seals that resist retort pressure and cooling shock, preventing leaks

  • Longer shelf life: protects flavor, texture and nutrition under demanding sterilization conditions

  • Food- and medical-grade safety: designed for contact with food, pet food and medical devices

  • Easy to print and convert: compatible with laminating, slitting and pouch-making on modern lines

Retort CPP Film Description

CloudFilm’s retortable CPP (RCPP) film is a high-performance cast polypropylene film designed specifically for high-temperature sterilization. According to the retort conditions, we offer both semi-retort grades (up to around 120°C) and high-temperature retort grades that can endure up to 135°C.

These grades are engineered to maintain seal strength and dimensional stability during both the heating and cooling stages of the retort process.

In a typical laminate, RCPP acts as the inner sealing layer combined with PET, BOPA (nylon) or aluminum foil. Common structures include PET/AL/RCPP, PET/NY/RCPP and PET/NY/AL/RCPP, which are widely used for ready meals, soups, sauces, pet food and other long-shelf-life products.

For customers using PET/CPP laminates in non-retort applications, we also supply PET CPP films for standard hot-fill and ambient-temperature packs.

Beyond food, our retortable CPP film is also used in sterilizable medical flexible packaging, such as pouches for instruments, diagnostic kits and medical devices that require steam or hot-water sterilization.

Revolutionize Your Food Packaging with Retort CPP Film

Elevating Packaging Standards with RCPP

In real production, packaging engineers often struggle with leaking seals, delamination, or off-flavors after retort. CloudFilm’s retortable CPP film is designed to solve these pain points. As the inner sealing layer in modern retort pouches, RCPP provides consistent seal strength, stable dimensions and reliable barrier properties, so your products can safely pass through 121–135°C sterilization while still looking and tasting the way consumers expect.

With CloudFilm’s RCPP, brands can confidently develop new ready-to-eat meals, sauces and wet pet food formats that meet today’s convenience trends without sacrificing safety or shelf life.

Superior Performance, Enhanced Safety

Our retortable CPP film is engineered for demanding retort cycles. It maintains excellent seal integrity under high pressure and rapid cooling, resists pinholes and flex-cracking, and offers a balanced barrier against moisture and oxygen when combined with PET, BOPA or aluminum foil. This helps protect flavor, texture and nutrition throughout the product’s life.

Because RCPP is based on food-grade polypropylene, it does not impart odor or taste to the packed contents and complies with relevant food-contact regulations in major markets. FAQ

What is retortable CPP (RCPP) film and where is it used?

Retortable CPP (RCPP) film is a cast polypropylene film specially formulated to withstand high-temperature retort sterilization. It is mainly used as the inner sealing layer in retort pouches for ready meals, soups, sauces, wet pet food and some medical or diagnostic products that require steam or hot-water sterilization.

What retort temperatures can CloudFilm’s RCPP withstand?

We offer both semi-retort grades and high-temperature retort grades. Semi-retort RCPP is typically suitable for sterilization up to around 120°C, while our high-temperature grades can endure retort conditions up to about 135°C when used in correctly designed laminates and sealing structures. The actual rating depends on your process time, pressure and cooling conditions, so please share your exact retort parameters with us for a precise recommendation.

How does retortable CPP film differ from BOPP and PET film in a laminate?

In most retort pouches, PET or BOPP is used as the outer print and barrier layer, while retortable CPP acts as the inner sealing layer. RCPP is optimized for seal strength, thermal stability and compatibility with the retort process, whereas PET and BOPP provide stiffness, printability and additional barrier. For example, a typical structure might be PET/AL/RCPP for high-barrier ready meals or PET/NY/RCPP for transparent retort pouches.

What are typical laminate structures using RCPP?

Common structures include PET/AL/RCPP, PET/NY/RCPP and PET/NY/AL/RCPP for shelf-stable foods, as well as PET/AL/RCPP structures for some medical or diagnostic pouches. For non-retort applications, PET/CPP laminates are also widely used. CloudFilm can recommend a structure based on your product type, retort conditions and desired shelf life.

What thicknesses, widths and core sizes are available?

As a guideline, our retortable CPP film is available in thicknesses from 20–100 μm and widths from 300–2000 mm. Standard reel diameters are typically 240–400 mm with 3″ or 6″ cores, depending on your slitting and pouch-making equipment. Please refer to the technical data on this page and contact us if you need a specific size or custom winding format.

Is CloudFilm’s RCPP film food-safe and certified?

Yes. CloudFilm’s retortable CPP films are produced using food-grade raw materials under a certified quality-management system (such as ISO9001), and can be supplied with relevant food-contact documentation on request. Our films are already used in food and pet food packaging in multiple markets worldwide.

Can you provide samples or trial rolls for testing?

We can provide free samples and, for most projects, short trial rolls so that your team can test sealing performance, retort resistance and machinability on your own lines. After the trial is approved, we will finalize specifications and pricing for regular production orders.

What information do I need to provide when asking for a quotation?

If you already know your laminate structure, thickness and retort conditions, please share those details with us. If not, you can simply tell us:

  • what product you are packing (e.g., soup, pet food, medical device),

  • your desired pouch type and size,

  • your retort temperature and time,

  • and, if possible, photos or samples of your current packaging.

Even if some parameters are unclear, send us what you have—CloudFilm’s engineering team will help you fill in the gaps and recommend a suitable RCPP film and laminate structure, so you can still submit your inquiry with confidence.
