KPET Film Description

KPET film is a high-performance high barrier film produced by coating a layer of polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC) onto a biaxially oriented PET base. It is also known in the market as PVDC coated PET film or PVDC PET film. This PET + PVDC structure combines the mechanical strength of polyester with the excellent gas and moisture barrier of PVDC in a single, reliable substrate.

Thanks to its dense PVDC coating, KPET film offers outstanding resistance to oxygen, moisture and aroma loss, helping brand owners extend shelf life, maintain flavour and protect sensitive ingredients. Compared with standard BOPET film, KPET delivers significantly higher barrier without sacrificing clarity or gloss, making it ideal for premium products where shelf appearance matters as much as shelf life.

CloudFilm’s KPET film is designed for modern converting lines. It provides stable thickness, smooth coating and consistent surface properties for printing, lamination and slitting. The film can be combined with PE, CPP and other sealant layers to build lidding films, pillow pouches and stand-up pouches. For projects that require chlorine-free transparent barrier, we can also propose ALOx PET film or PVDC coated films as complementary solutions.

When you work with CloudFilm, you are not only buying KPET film rolls; you also gain access to our formulation know-how, structure design support and trial roll service. Share your target shelf life, filling process and existing structure with us, and our engineers will recommend the most suitable KPET grade and laminate design for your line.

Ready to upgrade your packaging with high-barrier KPET film? At CloudFilm, we provide more than just film rolls – we help you choose the right structure for your product, filling line and shelf-life target.

Share a few key details with us in the inquiry form:

  • What product do you want to pack (snacks, meat, cheese, dry food, tablets, etc.)?

  • Your current structure (for example: PET/AL/PE, PET/PE or PA/PE) and target shelf life

  • Required thickness, width and annual / monthly volume

  • Filling and sealing process (VFFS, HFFS, lidding, vacuum or MAP, etc.)

Our team will quickly evaluate whether KPET film is suitable for your application and recommend a structure such as KPET/PE or KPET/CPP. We can provide spec sheets and small trial rolls for machine tests, so you can validate barrier performance, sealing and machinability before committing to a larger order. KPET Film Application

1. Food Packaging
KPET film is widely used in flexible food packaging that requires both visibility and high barrier, such as nuts, coffee, dry snacks, dehydrated vegetables, instant noodles seasoning and meat or cheese lidding films. In laminates like KPET/PE or KPET/CPP, the PVDC layer greatly reduces oxygen and moisture transmission, helping you replace traditional PET/AL/PE structures in many cases. For vacuum or very long shelf-life products, KPET films can also be combined with PA/PE films or EVOH co-extruded films</a> to fine-tune barrier and cost.

2. Pharmaceutical Packaging
In pharmaceutical and healthcare packaging, KPET film can be used in blister lidding, sachets and strip packs where barrier against moisture and oxygen is critical for product stability. It offers a clear alternative to fully aluminium-based structures while still protecting tablets, capsules and powders. For very demanding barrier requirements, CloudFilm can also supply dedicated PVDC PET films and PVDC films as complementary options.

3. Industrial Applications
Outside food and pharma, KPET film serves as a functional layer in industrial tapes, electronic insulation and technical laminates where a combination of mechanical strength, dimensional stability and barrier is required. When laminated with sealant films or speciality coatings, it can act as a barrier layer in technical pouches, process liners and industrial bags. Together with our broader BOPET film range, KPET enables you to design customised solutions for diverse industrial applications.

FAQ

Is KPET film recyclable?

While KPET film offers excellent barrier performance, it is usually used in multi-layer laminates (for example KPET/PE or KPET/CPP). In most regions, these mixed-material structures are not collected in mainstream recycling streams.

We recommend checking local recycling regulations and, if recyclability is a priority, discussing alternative structures such as ALOx PET or mono-material PE or PP solutions with our team.

Can KPET film be customised in thickness, width and colour?

Yes. CloudFilm can supply KPET film in various thicknesses, widths and surface treatments according to your project needs. Clear, lightly tinted or coloured versions are available for selected applications.

Share your target thickness range, roll width and application, and we will recommend a suitable grade and minimum order quantity.

How does KPET film compare to aluminium foil in barrier performance?

Aluminium foil still provides the highest possible barrier against oxygen, moisture and light, but it is completely opaque and less flexible. KPET film offers a very high barrier while keeping the pack transparent and printable, which is ideal for products that need both good shelf life and strong shelf appeal.

In some cases, KPET laminates can replace PET/AL/PE structures to reduce material cost and improve line efficiency.

What are the typical structures that use KPET film?

Common structures include KPET/PE, KPET/CPP and KPET/PE/PE for pillow bags, stand-up pouches, lidding films and technical laminates. KPET can also be combined with PA/PE or EVOH co-extruded films for more demanding barrier applications.

Tell us your current structure and we will suggest realistic KPET-based options.

What information do I need to provide for a quick KPET quote?

For a fast and accurate quotation, please provide: (1) Product to be packed and target shelf life, (2) Desired structure and total thickness, (3) Roll width and annual / monthly consumption, (4) Packing process (VFFS, HFFS, lidding, vacuum or MAP), and (5) Any specific regulatory or certificate requirements. Our sales and technical teams will respond with a tailored solution.

What is the typical lead time for KPET film orders?

Standard KPET film grades for common food and pharma applications can usually be shipped within 10–15 days after order confirmation, subject to quantity and current production load. For customised thicknesses, colours or surface treatments, lead time may be slightly longer. We will always confirm the exact schedule before you place your order.

Is KPET film suitable for high-speed packaging machines?

Yes. CloudFilm KPET film is designed for use on modern high-speed packaging lines. It offers stable thickness, good flatness and controlled slip, which support efficient running on VFFS, HFFS and lidding machines. We recommend testing a trial roll on your line so we can fine-tune COF and sealing behaviour if needed.

Does KPET film comply with food-contact regulations?

Our KPET films are produced under strict quality management and are designed for many regulated food-contact applications. For specific markets or regulations (such as EU or FDA), please tell us your target country and we will provide the appropriate declarations and documentation for the relevant KPET grades.
